Job Summary:

This Compressor Product Engineer is responsible for field and factory support of existing centrifugal HVAC compressors and will also have responsibility for making design changes to centrifugal compressors that improve reliability, reduce cost and increase sales through product extensions.

Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):

• Mechanical design enhancements of centrifugal compressors.

• Provide engineering disposition of non-conforming parts.

• Understanding of pressure vessel / casting design, bearing design, stress and deflection analysis, lubrication systems, seals, rotor dynamics and vibration analysis.

• Specify and apply compressor motors.

• Facilitate design reviews.

• Conduct design FMEAs; develop and execute resulting risk mitigation plans.

• Create and maintain engineering documentation; including technical reports, lab test results, drawings,and specifications.

• Provide technical support to laboratory technicians, manufacturing engineering, suppliers, technical service and operations.

• Assure compatibility between design and process capabilities.

• Monitor new technology through supplier relationships, participation in technical societies and conferences.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 1 year of engineering work experience is required.

Key Competencies:

• Practical “hands-on” hardware experience with strong mechanical design and analytical skills.

• Practical “hands-on” hardware experience with strong mechanical design and analytical skills.

• Experience with motor specification, application and qualification. Motor design skills and manufacturing experience is a plus.

• Computer skills in Pro-E and Ansys.

• Knowledge of engineering documentation, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and 3D modeling.

• A team player who works well with others and is satisfied by group accomplishments.

• Willing to travel up to 6 times per year to business units and suppliers.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Capable of leading a small project from start to finish.
